I Purchased a Lifetime Warranty From My Old Dealer. Am I Covered?

Of all the phone calls we have received since Local Mobility (trading as Luggie Scooters and Luggie UK) went into liquidation in the summer of 2025, this is the most common—and the most difficult—conversation we have.
If you invested your hard-earned money into a "Lifetime Warranty" or an extended service plan with the previous dealer, you bought it for peace of mind. Finding out that the company has closed its doors is incredibly stressful.
At MLV Mobility, we believe in complete transparency. We want to give you the honest, straightforward facts about where you stand with your warranty today, and what your options are moving forward.
The Short Answer: Is My Lifetime Warranty Valid?
We are incredibly sorry to have to deliver bad news, but no, your lifetime warranty is no longer valid.
Here is why: The "Lifetime Warranty" was a private, extended contract sold exclusively by Local Mobility. It was entirely backed and funded by them as a dealership, not by the manufacturer (Freerider).
Because Local Mobility UK Limited has ceased trading and been liquidated, those private contracts are unfortunately void. Furthermore, because MLV Mobility is a completely separate, independent business, we cannot legally or financially honour extended contracts sold by a closed competitor.
We know this is incredibly frustrating to hear, especially if you paid a premium for that cover.
The Silver Lining: Your Manufacturer’s Warranty is Safe
While the extended lifetime cover is void, there is some very good news regarding your standard cover.
Every new Luggie scooter comes with a standard manufacturer’s warranty backed directly by Freerider, the company that builds the scooters.
The closure of Local Mobility does not void this core agreement.
If you purchased your scooter relatively recently and it is still within its original standard warranty period (typically 12 months for the scooter and batteries, though this can vary by model), you are still protected against manufacturing defects.
As an Official Freerider Approved Dealer, MLV Mobility is fully authorised to handle these standard warranty claims. If your scooter develops a fault that is covered by the manufacturer, we can step in, process the paperwork, and get your scooter repaired using genuine parts.
What Are My Options Now?
If you find yourself entirely out of warranty, you are not stranded. Here is what you can do next:
1. Check Your Payment Method (Section 75 Protection)
If you purchased your Luggie or the Lifetime Warranty using a credit card shortly before Local Mobility closed in the summer of 2025, you might be protected under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. We highly recommend contacting your credit card provider immediately to explain that the retailer has gone into liquidation and the promised services cannot be provided. They may be able to help you recover some of those costs.
2. Honest, Transparent Servicing with MLV Mobility
Just because your lifetime warranty is gone doesn't mean your scooter can't be maintained safely. Much like a car, your Luggie needs an annual service to ensure the brakes, batteries, and folding mechanisms are safe for travel.
MLV Mobility offers fair, transparently priced servicing and repairs. We don't believe in hidden fees or charging exorbitant hourly rates. Our engineers are officially trained on the entire Luggie range, meaning we can diagnose and fix issues quickly and efficiently.

3. Genuine Parts and Batteries
If something does break, we have direct access to Freerider’s complete catalogue of official spare parts. From new lithium batteries for your next cruise to replacement tyres, we can supply and fit exactly what you need to keep your scooter running like new.
Moving Forward with Confidence
Losing a promised lifetime warranty is a bitter pill to swallow, and it is completely understandable if you feel let down by the mobility industry right now.
At MLV Mobility, our goal is to rebuild that trust. We are a stable, family-run style business that values honesty above a quick sale. Whether you just need a bit of free advice over the phone, a minor repair, or a full annual service, we are here to support the Luggie community across the UK.
Don't let the closure of your old dealer keep you from enjoying your independence.
